THE FLU – Vaccination and Treatment

Jennifer Albrich

Abstract

Influenza, more commonly known as the “flu, is a contagious respiratory infection caused by influenza viruses. Unlike a common cold, the flu can be a serious disease and lead to death, especially for people at risk of complications from the infection, such as the elderly, people with weakened immune systems, and other people with certain health conditions. Flu viruses are spread from person to person through the coughing and sneezing of other people who have the flu, and sometimes people can catch the flu by touching something with flu viruses on it and then touching their mouth or nose.
