Nutrition and nutritional supllements in HIV
Abstract
The emphasis on nutrition is important in all stages of HIV infection and should focus on recommending a healthy eating pattern and a balanced diet. The intention is to maintain body weight by eating a wide variety of healthy foods. Nonetheless, many individuals infected with HIV suffer from malnutrition. The causes of such malnutrition are varied and range from socio-economic factors to depression and reduced food intake as a result of oral or oesophageal thrush.
